Dambe Warriors League: Nigerian-Born Fighter, Sisco Triumph Over Saudi Opponent

KANO (North-West, Nigeria) — The season one of the Dambe Warriors League has ended in the ancient city of Kano with Nigerian-born fighter, Dogon Sisco triumphing over his opponent from Saudi Arabia, Hussain Al-Mutairi in an international grudge match.

Sisco emerged winner after defeating the Saudi fighter in a 1st round knockout of the championship organized by the Dambe Warriors League.

Similarly, three other fighters, namely Dogo Maitakwasara, Ramadan and Bahagon Zayyanu have emerged winners of the heavyweight, middleweight and lightweight championship respectively of the league.

Speaking at the event, the co founder of Dambe Warriors, Chidi Anyina said season 2 of the Dambe Warriors League is bill to start by December, 2023.

“We have 18 fighters in our league (6 in each categories of heavyweight middleweight and lightweight. The last has been relegated. And now, we have three people (promotional) that will join the fighting league which has the season 2 starting by December. They will be part of the six for the season 2.

“We had seven fights: three promotional fights, three championship fights, and one international Grudge Match between Nigerian-born Dogon Sisco and Hussain Al-Mutairi of Saudi Arabia.

“Hussain fought and lost his first match. And went back to Saudi Arabia and he said people were laughing at him. That he wants to come back to Nigeria and redeem his image,” Anyina stated.

On his part, the President of Traditional Sports Federation, Olomo Agbadabina who also graced the event, expressed optimism that the future of the traditional sports is bright with collaborations such as that by the Dambe Warriors.

He however appealed to government at all levels, philanthropists, corporate bodies among others to collaborate with the federation to promote traditional sports and take it to the next level of All African games and Olympics.

“I’m very happy to be part of this occasion. This is my first time I am in Kano for this type occasion. The happiness is that the private sector is collaborating with the federation. I think that will be a good partnership in the development of the traditional sports. I like the turn out, it is very impressive.

“I will use this opportunity to appeal to government at all levels, philanthropists and corporate bodies among others to collaborate with the federation to promote traditional sports so that we can take it to the next level of All African games and Olympics,” Agbadabina said.

Meanwhile, winners of the various championship title smiled home with prizes ranging from N500,000 to N1 million.

Highlight of the event saw one of the popular musicians in the Northern music industry, Hamisu Breaker, adding colour to the event by entertaining the spectators with songs from his album.
